Now in color– Sersi from The Eternals.
I first encountered Sersi when she joined the Avengers in the early 90s, under John Byrne / Paul Ryan / Tom Palmer. She had very much her classic look, though drawn a little more realistic with the typical Palmer finish. I liked her but don't really remember if I just saw her as a random super-character, or if I knew a little about the whole Eternals saga.
In the later 90s Avengers books, her part became a lot darker and her look was also different. Lot of heartbreak and cosmic drama involving a love triangle with Black Knight and Crystal.
I love Kirby's original design of her as a cheerful (but powerful) party goddess. I'm currently collecting back issues of the original Eternals run and loving it. I've even looked for the Thor issues where they incorporated them firmly into the Marvel Universe (great drawings by Buscema channeling Kirby) and the limited series by Walter Simonson (drawn mostly by Sal Buscema). Perhaps I should check out Neil Gaiman's take from the 2000s next!
